Music Ministry

Music ministry here at St. John Fisher has had a long history of excellence and we have continued as best we could through these trying and ever-changing times.  We are rebuilding the ministry as we move forward.

We strive to meet the needs of parishioners by providing a broad range of musical styles each Sunday, from Gregorian chant and traditional hymns, to gospel, jazz and rock.  Our purpose is to encourage participation and heighten the experience of the liturgy by using inspirational music to magnify and underscore the themes of the Sunday readings and the liturgical seasons.  We also present concerts of sacred music and secular music performed by the various choirs using a wide range of instrumental accompaniment.

All have open enrollment, and we welcome anyone who loves music and wants to participate.  The rehearsal and liturgical times for the choirs are as follows:

Children’s Choir

Rehearses WEDNESDAYS, Sept 2024 through May 2025, from 4:00 – 5:15 pm.  Children grades 2-6 can join the choir at any time during the year, no auditions necessary.  The choir sings once a month at the 9:00 AM Sunday, First Communion celebrations, Easter Sunday, and Christmas Eve (daytime) Masses, as well as the Advent/Christmas concert.  Please contact Children’s Choir director, Carolyn Correnti (ccorrenti@sjf.org)

Teen Choir

Rehearses on Sundays at 4:00 pm with the band, then sings at the 5:00 Teen liturgy, then we stay after to rehearse for the next Sunday until 6:45 pm.  We sing the 8:00 pm Christmas Eve Mass and Easter Sunday at 1:00 pm Mass.

The Contemporary and Parish Choirs (presently combined)

Rehearses on Thursdays from 7:30 – 9:00 pm, 10:30 Sunday mornings, and sings at the 11:00 am liturgy as well as the special liturgies during Lent, Easter and Christmas.  The choirs also present three concerts during the year, with various instrumentation, including orchestra, piano or organ.  When the numbers allow, we will split into two choirs, one at 9:00 am Mass and the other at 11:00 am Mass.
