Prayers of the Faithful

The Baptism of the Lord
January 11, 2015

God invites those who are hungry and thirsty to come to the water and to seek him while he may be found.  We, too, seek the Lord through our prayers, asking God to give us the fervor to live out our baptisms with greater conviction.

  • That we may breathe forth the Spirit by seeking reconciliation with all those who have hurt us, we pray to the Lord.
  • That we may release the Spirit by providing hope and consolation to the distraught and despairing in our midst, we pray to the Lord.
  • That we may hand on the Spirit to all those who are searching for the message of Jesus in their daily lives, we pray to the Lord.
  • For the willingness to accept and recommit to our baptismal call and for all who prepare others for baptism and those called to guide the baptized: parents, catechists, and godparents, we pray to the Lord.
  • For the sick, especially José Marín [Mah-RINN], that the Lord might send forth his Spirit to heal their body and mind, we pray to the Lord.
  • For those who have died, especially Joseph Clay, uncle of Alison Graff; Mildred Parsons, mother-in-law of Joe Arroyo; and Despina Wilson, mother of Marina Terzoli; Michael Prue, friend of Katie Dante; and Carolyn Wang, sister of Elaine MacGilfrey, that they may be gathered up into the tender arms of Jesus, we pray to the Lord.
  • For the silent and unspoken needs in our hearts as well as those written down in our Book of Special Intentions, we pray to the Lord.

God of all time and ages, who gently and quietly wait for us to come to you, you offer us signs of your presence and send us witnesses to your love.  Help us to keep your commandments and in doing so express our love for you, and use the power given to us at baptism. We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
