Christian Life Communities

Christian Life Communities are small communities
typically of 8-12 members who meet on a regular schedule, determined by
the needs of the group. Some meet weekly, others biweekly, and still
others monthly. Some groups may meet year-round, others during the
school year while others may choose to come together for eight-week
seasons in the fall and in Lent.

Each Christian Life Community
forms based on schedule and interests. Some may consist of a mixed group
of members, others may be moms of young children, others empty nesters,
others married couples, and others may consist of 6 or so families who
come together to form a small community.

Each Christian Life
Community (CLC) at St. John Fisher is challenged to live out the
following six elements of small community life.

  • Prayer-a core element of any Christian experience,
each small community commits to praying together, for one another’s
needs as well as the needs of the larger community.
  • Support-members of a CLC strive to support one another as each strives to grow in relationship to Christ and His Church.
  • Reflection-each group commits to spending time each time they gather to reflect upon the Sunday readings, or other words from Scripture.
  • Learning-as members of Christ’s body we recognize
that we can always learn and grow. Each CLC commits to an intentional
    learning experience.
  • Participation-members of a CLC recognize that they
are members of the whole parish. As group and individuals, they are
    vital participants in parish life.
  • Mission, or Action-both as individuals and as a
group, CLCs are expected to live out the mission of Christ in everyday
life as well as intentional projects. Each group is challenged to
participate in at least one collective action in the fall, and one in
the spring as well as encouraging one another’s missionary spirit all
    year long.

Here is a directory of existing Christian Life Communities:
Christian Family Movement (CFM) is a national
network of parish/neighborhood small groups of Catholics and their
families. Parents meet regularly in one another’s homes or at the
parish. Through the use of programming and the dynamics of group
interaction, Christian values are reinforced and families are encouraged
to reach out in action to others. CFM members meet one Friday each
month to explore living out one’s faith in everyday life.

Eucharistic Apostles of Divine Mercy is
a community dedicated to promoting the message of Jesus, which was
given to St. Maria Faustina, of His unfathomable ocean of mercy for
mankind. In the loving arms of Our Lady we pray the Divine Mercy
Chaplet, visit the sick and dying and reach out to the poor and needy.
